Episode 1: Faith Walkthrough & Choices
Follow the original Faith episode route, investigate Toad and Lawrence, and understand the early choices before playing the remaster.
How should you approach Faith?
Original-game reference; remaster route verification pending. The official remaster listing includes all five episodes, but this guide follows the released original. Check the edition comparison for confirmed changes. Spoilers below cover Episode 1 only.
Play the first conversation as a character introduction rather than a test with a single correct answer. Bigby is Fabletown’s sheriff, but his reputation precedes him. Look at optional objects before choosing the action that advances a scene. Dialogue timers can expire while you consider a response, and silence can itself become your answer.
What happens at Toad’s apartment building?
The opening disturbance takes Bigby to a confrontation involving the Woodsman and a woman whose identity becomes central to the case. Speak with Toad, follow the disturbance upstairs, and inspect what the room allows before the confrontation escalates. The action sequence introduces on-screen prompts: use the prompts shown by your own platform rather than following a controller-specific button sequence from an older guide.
After the fight, talk to the woman outside. Whether you give her money is an early expression of Bigby’s priorities. It is not an inventory investment that guarantees a later reward. Remember her words and the way the conversation ends; the opening is doing narrative work as well as teaching the controls.
Which clues matter at the Woodlands?
Back at the Woodlands, conversations with Beauty, Beast, and Colin establish the community and Bigby’s complicated position within it. A promise to Beauty concerns what you tell Beast; it does not create an alternative main investigation. If you want to role-play consistently, decide whether your sheriff protects confidences or treats every question as official business.
The discovery outside the building begins the murder investigation. Examine the evidence before leaving the area. In the business office, work with Snow and Bufkin, examine the books, and use the Magic Mirror after you have identified the people you want to ask about. The symbol and the Book of Fables help establish Faith’s identity. The Mirror’s glimpse of Prince Lawrence makes the next destination choice more than a cosmetic ordering preference.
Should you visit Lawrence or Toad first?
Visit Lawrence first if your priority is preserving his chance of survival. The original game’s route is time-sensitive: going to Toad first closes that opportunity. Arriving at Lawrence’s first is the necessary starting point, not permission to ignore what happens during the scene. Inspect the room and follow the developing situation carefully.
Toad’s apartment has a different emphasis. Compare his account with the physical evidence instead of treating each statement as reliable. Examine the damage and use inconsistencies to press for an explanation. You will investigate both leads, but the first destination changes what can still happen at the other one. The major choices guide distinguishes this branch from ordinary dialogue reactions.
How do you finish the Trip Trap section?
At the Trip Trap, speak with Holly and the Woodsman, then deal with the confrontation involving Gren. The decision about Gren’s arm is a deliberate mercy-or-violence choice; you do not need to select the harshest response to keep the story moving. The final pursuit makes you choose between two suspects. That choice affects the interrogation context in the next episode, rather than giving you a way to finish the case immediately.
Continue with Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors. For a reminder of relationships without later revelations, use the character guide. If you are waiting for the new edition, see the release-date page.
What sources support this route?
The original Steam listing establishes the five-episode game. Gamepressure’s Choices chapter documents the Lawrence-first branch, while its Mirror Mirror chapter covers the office investigation. This is an original editorial route summary, not a claim of hands-on remaster testing.
